Well, it will be happening and one of those 2 idiots will be getting the nod to put us through a whole load more shite for at least 4 years. Actually for me does it matter that much? Well, only in a secondary sense in so far as it has an effect on the world which will continue to be a detrimental one. I feel sorry for the many Americans who do not want the world to hate them. The Americans who have been singularly let down by the richest state on the planet, the dispossessed, the disenfranchised, those too poor to pay for healthcare, welfare and education. I feel sorry for the Palestinians whose cause will not be advanced by either candidate, I feel sorry for the Iraqis to whom the damage has already been done, over 100,000 dead, cities, pride, confidence, spirits and faith destroyed. And I feel sorry for those we do not here about, those in the less than fashionable countries who do not even merit air strikes due to their being under the yoke of the neo-con and neo-lib agenda. Those working in the sweatshops for Trans-National corporations, those fighting in guerilla battles against US/CIA-funded neo-fascist regimes etc. etc. The list goes on and on. All in all I do not think it matters to these people who gets in the results will be the same, even if it is just a matter of same shit different arsehole.
I’m sorry for my somewhat belligerent pessimism and I know that if someone had told me all this in 1997 even tho’ I knew it was going to be shite I don’t think even I could have believed it would be as bad as it has turned out. I guess I just don’t like to see vast swathes of people be disappointed as I suspect is going to happen. It has happened in Britain and Germany for starters and I suspect in many more countries where the party that used to at least have a semblance of of an interest in the plight of the working class has taken up that ground once occupied by the conservatives. There is a vacuum on the left and something must fill it.
I understand those high on hope for the Kerry campaign, they are by and large honourable people with the best motives, I could say the same for many of those on the ground who are traditional socialists who still think the Labour party is their natural home. But that doesn’t mean they’re right I’m afraid and 7 years have only gone to back up that hypothesis.

I couldn’t believe how many people didn’t know how they were going to vote until they got to the booth. Then once they were done, they told me they ended up voting Nader!

Pimme made this comment,
With another four years of Bush, he can only blame his party for whatever goes wrong next. The Conservatives have control of the House and Senate, so he can’t logically blame the Democrats for any future wrongdoings.
